A late penalty save by the Swans rising young star in goal, Freddie Woodman, from new Boro signing Luke Norris, with nine minutes remaining ended any hopes of a comeback.

Ten years and a day since Stevenage beat Premier League Newcastle at the same stage of the cup - in what remains the club's greatest giant killing result - Alex Revell's side could not match their heroics of previous rounds this season, after beating then League One leaders Hull City in late November.

Speaking to Nub News after the match Revell said: "All in all it's a positive in terms of some of the performances - but we would have liked to have won the game and been in the next round."

While Revell's side matched Swansea for effort, the visitors who sit in second place in the Championship, were able to win through to the fourth round - despite making made seven changes from their last league game.

Swans boss Steve Cooper said afterwards: "We saw a good attitude from the boys, scored two goals, got a clean sheet and we're in the next round, which is exciting."
