South Wales Police have given warnings to those making unnecessary journeys to Mumbles today.

Joint Enforcement Teams continued their patrols of car parks in Mumbles and Gower today and issued warnings to people who were travelling without a valid reason.

Patrols of the areas are set to continue.

In a Tweet, South Wales Police said: "Joint Enforcement Team have today attended the Swansea, Mumbles and Gower areas and have spoken with members of the public. Warnings given to those travelling without a valid reason."

The police force encouraged people to stay at home and consider whether their journey is necessary.

"#GowerNpt and #JointEnforcementTeam officers have been conducting Covid #patrols in all #Gower and #Mumbles car parks today," another Tweet from South Wales Police said.

"Is your journey essential? If not, positive action will be taken. Patrols will continue as necessary."

Swansea City Council has also asked members of the public not to drive to the beach.

"Your exercise should begin and end at home. Driving to a beach or beauty spot is not an essential journey," the Council said in a statement on Facebook.

"Car parks are available for those with mobility problems and other disabilities to travel a short distance for suitable place to exercise."

What does the Welsh Government say?

Wales has been in Alert Level 4 since 20 December.

The Government website says people can leave home to exercise as often as they like, but they must do so from home and alone or with members of their household or support bubble. Carers are included in this.

There are no limits on how far you can travel during your exercise, but the Welsh Government website states that you should start and finish from your home.

The advice also states that people should not be driving to get to somewhere to exercise, and that no journeys of any significant distance should be taken, including going to exercise in the countryside or visiting beauty spots.

Those with mobility issues who need to travel from their home to exercise are advised to make a journey to the nearest accessible location, with no long journeys being undertaken unless absolutely necessary.
