Charities and volunteers in Mumbles, and the rest of Swansea, have the chance to bid for food poverty grants set up by Swansea City Council.

The council has set up a £100,000 fund aiming to direct money to projects tackling food poverty across the area. It also says it welcomes applications supporting community growing projects.

"I'm really pleased that this year we are again able to make grants available to charities, organisations and third sector groups working to combat food poverty," said Alyson Pugh, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Supporting Communities.

"The larger grants are now currently available so please apply to access these funds to help you support people."

In the last round of funding, groups who were awarded the grants used the money to support families and vulnerable people throughout the lockdown and the firebreak.

The funding can be used for a wide range of ideas such as purchasing food or equipment, community growing projects, and food education projects.

Cash grants can also be used to pay for foodbank staff, training, collection and delivery work.

Applications are only open to charitable or voluntary organisations which are not for profit.

The Round Two deadline for applying for the grant closes on January 11.

To request an application, contact [email protected] or visit www.swansea.gov.uk for more information.
