29th Jan 2021 | Local News

The Mumbles and Newton ward has again recorded one of the lowest rates of coronavirus in Swansea, whilst the infection rate for West Cross has increased, the latest Public Health Wales data has revealed.

Swansea's infection rate has continued to fall, decreasing from 134 to 120.

The areas with the highest rates of coronavirus cases currently are Landore, Llansamlet and West Cross.

Dunvant and Upper Killay, West Gower, and Llangyfelach and Tircoed currently have the lowerst rates of coronavirus cases.

Latest cases from 17-23 January

Mumbles and Newton: 3

West Cross: 13

Mayals and Bishopston: 4

West Gower: 0-2

What does this data mean?

The latest update for Covid-19 cases has been released by Public Health Wales. It is based on the rolling seven-day average from 17-23 January.

It is important to note that because this data covers small areas, it is very volatile – where an area has a very small population, even one positive case can push up the cases per 100,000 significantly.

For instance, Sketty and Tycoch have exactly the same number of cases in this seven-day period (6) but the number of cases per 100,000 of population is different, at 94 and 73 respectively.

Tycoch has a larger population than Sketty, which means that its number of cases per 100,000 is lower as a result.
