Mumbles has the lowest rate of coronavirus, according to the latest data from Public Health Wales.

The data, calculated per 100,000 population in each ward of Swansea, shows that the number of cases has continued to fall across the city.

These latest case figures cover a rolling seven-day period up to 15 January.

Mumbles and Newton had the lowest infection rate at 81, followed by West Gower, at 95, and Ty-Coch, at 98.

Other wards surrounding the Mumbles area also showed lowered infection rates, with West Cross at 154 and Mayals and Bishopston at 120.

Cases in the seven days to 15 January

Mumbles and Newton: 6

West Cross: 10

Mayals and Bishopston: 7

West Gower: 6

What does this data mean?

The latest update for Covid-19 cases has been released by Public Health Wales. It is based on the rolling seven-day average up to 15 January.

It is important to note that because this data covers small areas, it is very volatile – where an area has a very small population, even one positive case can push up the cases per 100,000 significantly.

For instance, Gowerton and Llansamlet have exactly the same number of cases in this seven-day period (17) but the number of cases per 100,000 of population is different, at 253 and 242 respectively.

Llansamlet has a larger population than Gowerton, which means that its number of cases per 100,000 is lower as a result.
