Free bus service transports residents to Bay Field Hospital

By Beth Thomas 1st Feb 2021

First Cymru are running a free bus service for customers who need to get to the Bay Studio vaccination centre in Swansea.

The bus service, which began today, runs from Swansea Bus Station to the Bay Field Hospital every 20 minutes between 8am and 8pm. The bus will depart from Bay D.

This service will pick up along the route, but will only drop off at Bay Field Hospital. On the return journey into town, it will only pick up at the hospital, dropping passengers off along the route.

Vaccinations: The latest

As of 28 January, 44,480 people had been vaccinated in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has said that GPs would deliver the vast majority of coronavirus vaccinations to those who were shielding or clinically extremely vulnerable in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot areas.

The health board says it is targeting for both groups to be vaccinated by mid-February.

A smaller number of this group will receive their first doses at one of the mass vaccination centres, such as the Bay Field Hospital, or by special arrangement.

Where members of this group will be vaccinated depends on their age, or what GP practice they belong to.

All surgeries in Swansea with the exception of University practices, will be vaccinating people on their lists in the group.

Most adults in this group aged up to 74 will be called for vaccination by their GP practice, once they have completed the over 80s.

Those who are shielding and aged 75-79 may already have been called to a mass vaccination centre, but can cancel that appointment by telephoning the number on their appointment letter and waiting for the GP surgery to contact them if they prefer.

A small number of people in this group who attend the Dyfed Road, Neath, and Swansea University practices will have their vaccinations by special arrangement. They will be contacted soon, the health board said.

Once all of those in groups one to four have been vaccinated, people aged 50 to 69 and those between 16 and 64 with underlying health conditions will be called for vaccination.
