The Mumbles and Newton ward has recorded the lowest coronavirus rate in Swansea, the latest data from Public Health Wales has revealed.

Swansea's overall infection rate has continued to fall and is now at 88.3. Seven days ago, this figure was 120 cases per 100,000 people.

The areas of Swansea with the highest rates of coronavirus cases currently are Gowerton, Landore and St Thomas.

Latest cases from 17-23 January

Mumbles and Newton: 0-2

West Cross: 7

Mayals and Bishopston: 3

West Gower: 5

What does this data mean?

The latest update for Covid-19 cases has been released by Public Health Wales. It is based on the rolling seven-day average up to 30 January.

It is important to note that because this data covers small areas, it is very volatile – where an area has a very small population, even one positive case can push up the cases per 100,000 significantly.

For instance, Ravenhill and Loughor have exactly the same number of cases in this seven-day period (nine) but the number of cases per 100,000 of population is different, at 107 and 94 respectively.

Loughor has a larger population than Ravenhill, which means that its number of cases per 100,000 is lower as a result.
