A local councillor has proposed an expression of interest for Mumbles Community Council to take over a proposed development site at Langland.
Cllr Will Thomas proposed to put forward an expression of interest to Swansea Council in Mumbles County Council taking over the Langland Bay site.
The proposal was discussed in a full council meeting yesterday evening, and councillors voted in favour of the expression of interest, with one abstaining from voting.
"This proposal is really put forward by myself," Cllr Thomas said in the meeting.
"It's really just to express an interest again that MCC is prepared to take over the whole site."
Swansea Council has said that property consultants working for them had received enquiries from developers about how the 0.77-acre site could be used.
It is currently occupied by three of Langland Bay's six tennis courts, as well as a St John Ambulance base.
Swansea Council has said that it wants any development to provide leisure and public toilet facilities that would improve services for the public and be sympathetic to the environment.
Potential uses of the site include a restaurant, café, shop, gallery, training centre, gym, or sports facility.
In a Facebook post prior to the full council meeting, Cllr Thomas said: "At this stage Swansea Council have only asked for expressions of interest so my proposal does not include a detailed business plan or any visuals.
"However, the motivation is to propose a scheme that is backed by a community consultation. That way the betterment and wellbeing of local people and visitors can be prioritised."
Swansea Council has said that it is in the process of agreeing a lease on a peppercorn rent for Mumbles Community Council to manage the remaining three courts.
In a Facebook post following the council meeting, Cllr Thomas said: "All but one of my colleagues at MCC voted in favour of submitting an expression of interest for the council to take over the Langland tennis courts and toilet block site from Swansea Council.
"Let us now hope we can convince Swansea Council this is the best way forward."
